The Quantum Act is expected to enter into force in 2026 and pursues three objectives: first, to boost research and innovation; second, to scale up industrial capacity; and third, to reinforce the supply chain resilience and governance.

In its statement, the Swiss Quantum Commission underlines the importance of the Quantum Act for Europe in further strengthening its strategic position in quantum science and technologies. At the same time, it emphasizes the importance of continued close cooperations between Switzerland and the European Union in this field. Switzerland is home to a dynamic quantum ecosystem, an excellent education and training landscape, and internationally recognized expertise in research, innovation, and talent development.

Given the high resource intensity of quantum technologies, coordinated cooperation between the EU and Switzerland can contribute to strengthening supply chains, avoiding duplication of efforts, accelerating commercialization, and safeguarding Europe’s competitiveness. The EU Quantum Act offers an opportunity to consolidate this cooperation in a sustainable and trust-based manner.
